Fun and Easy Valentine’s Day Activities for Toddlers 2025

Valentine’s Day is a special time to celebrate love and togetherness, and what better way to do it than by engaging your little ones in some fun and creative activities? Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, or teacher, planning a few fun Valentine’s Day activities for the toddlers in your life can be easy with these ideas. They are simple, require little preparation, and are budget-friendly!

These Valentine’s Day themed activities are geared towards younger children, but could be adapted to use with older kids as well. I have children three years and under in my home daycare, so these easy activities are perfect for us. We’re planning a week filled with Valentine’s Day fun and learning!

Valentine’s Day Foods

We serve breakfast, lunch, and two snacks for the daycare. Here’s our menu for February 14, with a Valentine’s Day twist:

Breakfast: Heart-Shaped Pancakes

All you need is a heart-shaped cookie cutter and your favorite pancake recipe. Serve with a side of fresh strawberries or some strawberry yogurt. This is a fun way to incorporate language about the heart shape and the colors pink and red.

If pancakes won’t work for you, try cutting toast into heart shapes with a heart cookie cutter, and spreading with a little bit of cream cheese and raspberry fruit spread.

Morning Snack: Yogurt Parfaits

Layer yogurt with granola and fresh berries in a small cup. Let your toddler help with the layering process to engage their creativity and independence. You can talk about the colors of the berries and the pattern (yogurt, berries, yogurt, berries).

If granola is hard for your toddlers to eat, you can serve graham crackers with the parfaits.

Valentine’s Day Lunch: Spaghetti

We’ll have spaghetti with red sauce, served on fun Valentine’s Day plates, with heart-shaped garlic toast, plus a vegetable, fruit, and milk to complete the meal.

Afternoon Snack: Fruit Salad

We’ll use all the red-colored fruits we can find: strawberries, raspberries, apple, and red grapes to make a fun Valentine’s Day fruit salad. I love this little tool for cutting grapes into quarters, and this one for chopping apples and other fruits into little cubes. We will serve heart-shaped cinnamon-sugar tortilla crisps also.

Valentine’s Day Craft Activities: Heart Art

Valentine’s Day is a wonderful time to let your toddler’s creativity shine with some hands-on activities. Here are the simple craft projects we are doing leading up to Valentine’s Day.

Coffee Filter Heart Painting

We’ve done coffee filter art activities for several holidays, and they are so much fun! For this fun craft, grab some coffee filters, markers, and a spray bottle filled with water. Have your toddler color the coffee filters with markers, then spray them lightly with water to create a beautiful, watercolor effect. For the younger children, we use dot markers. Once dry, fold and cut them into heart shapes. Hang them on a window to catch the light and brighten up the room. Coloring and operating the spray bottle are good for building fine motor skills. The little boys in my daycare love the chance to use the spray bottle!

Caterpillar Made of Hearts

Create a cute caterpillar using construction paper hearts. Cut out a bunch of hearts of different colors (let your toddler choose the colors). Depending of the age of your children, you can write a letter on each heart to spell their name, or put one word on each heart to make a sentence. Have your toddler help glue them onto a piece of paper in order, with each heart overlapping slightly. Draw on eyes, antennae, and legs using a marker. This activity can help young children understand that letters and words have meaning. We are beginning to work on letter recognition with our older children, specifically the letters in their name, so this is a great activity for that.

Activities Throughout the Week

Valentine’s Day is all about celebrating love, and there are plenty of activities you can do together with your little ones. We’re planning the following activities for lots of fun!

Story Time

Choose a few Valentine’s-themed books to read together. We usually incorporate a book into our morning circle time, just before lunch, before nap, and at the end of the day..

We like “I Love You, Little Pookie” by Sandra Boynton and “Guess How Much I Love You” by Sam McBratney.

Dance Party

Create a playlist of happy, love-themed songs and have a dance party! Dancing is a great way to burn off energy and enjoy some giggles together. Plus, it encourages movement and coordination.

My toddlers are loving “If You’re Happy and You Know It” and “Skidamarink.” We play them on the Alexa and they have a blast being silly!

Dramatic Play

We’ll be setting up a post office to mail our Valentine’s Day cards. I’ll provide paper, crayons, and stickers, and when the kiddos are done decorating them, they can slip them into our “mailbox” (just a decorated shoebox). On Valentine’s Day, we will take turns delivering the mail to one another.

Sensory Play

I’ll be making pink play dough using this recipe. Playdough is a great fine motor activity, and it helps build the muscles in little hands. I’ll provide heart shaped cookie cutters and the kids can squish, mold, roll and cut out shapes. I’ll extend this activity by providing a tray and plates to put play dough “cookies” on.

I hope you enjoy doing some of these simple Valentine’s Day activities with the little ones in your life. It’s easy to feel pressure to create the perfect holiday experience, but remember, it’s the little moments of connection that matter most.

Until next time, Happy Valentine’s Day!
